As anyone who has ever owned a traditional waterbed can tell you, you can’t just pick it up and move it to the other side of the room. So if you are one of those people who likes to change your living space around occasionally, traditional waterbeds are not well suited for that proclivity. And heretofore while there has only ever been one way to move an old-fashioned waterbed from one side of a room to the other…which has been to drain it and then refill it on the other side….that was then and this is now. Enter the modular InnoMax Portable Waterbed. Light enough for any average Jane or John Doe to setup & move anytime, Portable Waterbeds are designed for the here and now.

And as a filled cylinder tube typically weighs between 35 to 40 pounds (about 16 to 18 kg), all the components are manageable for 1 person to setup or move which is a key feature of the InnoMax design.

• Cylinder Weight: Each tube is designed to optionally be filled at a faucet and hand carried, which is an advantage over traditional hardside waterbed mattresses that must be filled in place with a hose.

• Total Bed Weight: A Queen mattress utilizing 8 cylinders weighs approximately 280-320 pounds which is significantly less than a traditional hardside waterbed.

Customizable Firmness: allows individual adjustability levels for each side of the bed

• Customizable Firmness: The individual cylinder tubes allow users to customize the feel of the bed by adjusting the water fill levels which can create different firmness levels for each side of the mattress if so desired. The number of tubes used for standard bed sizes is; 5 for Twin, 8 for Queen and 10 for King.

• You may optionally fill waterbed tubes in a bathtub or sink. This is another advantage of the Portable Waterbed tube system, as the individual tubes are designed to be portable and filled in a convenient or remote location.

• Portability: The tubes are light, making it easy to carry them to and from the nearest bathroom or kitchen for filling or installing.

• Faucet Adapters: You can use a standard garden hose with a waterbed fill and drain kit, which includes adapters to connect the hose to most kitchen or bathroom faucets.

• Add Conditioner: Remember to add the required Waterbed Conditioner tablet or solution to the water in each tube during the filling process to keep the water fresh and prevent algae growth.

However if you really want to have one, please use only Waterbed Heaters specifically designed and certified compliant with Underwriters Laboratories UL1445 Standard for use with modular tube waterbeds like InnoMax Softside Waterbed heaters. For your reference InnoMax Portable Waterbeds have been specifically designed to facilitate optionally installing the insulation pad below the heater(s) with tubes on top (refer Setup Instructions link above) to provide a temperature controlled sleep environment…but that’s another Waterbedtime Story.

In the early 1970s, a curious bedroom accessory began to emerge from the fringes of American counter-culture: a mattress filled with water. The waterbed—initially appearing in head-shops and hippie hang-outs—invited sleepers to immerse in fluid suspension slumber. In those early days, many of the earliest owners built their own frames out of 2” × 10” inch lumber—a rectangular “Hardside” box, bolted or screwed together with plywood decking under the mattress binding the frame together for structural integrity.

Evolution: platform frames, pedestals and drawer bases

Hardside Assembly Instructions online

As the waterbed phenomenon matured, so too did the frames. The early “DIY lumber box” gradually gave way to more formally manufactured Hardside frames and furniture. Furniture-builders then began designing platform styles whereby the water chamber would sit on a pedestal base, sometimes with built-in drawers underneath, or on raised pedestals to offer storage space beneath. Meanwhile standardization of Hardside fluid mattress sizes emerged: King ~ 6′ (72″) width by 7′ (84″) length, Queen ~ 5′ (60″) width by 7′ (84″) length and Super Single ~ 4′ (48″) width by 7′ (84″) length all accommodating an 8” Waterbed Depth (water fill height). Over the decades, headboards, side rails, padded cap-rails—all continued evolving to include wall beds, platforms and other innovative designs that found their way into conventional furniture and home stores.

Standardization of the Hardside mattress and accessories

Parallel to frame evolution, the waterbed mattress and its technical components became standardized as well. As demand grew, mattress manufacturers settled on common dimensions and accessories so that frame-builders and retailers could target known widths, lengths and depths for companion Safety Liners. This also helped establish performance standards for waterbed heaters as it quickly became evident that 300 Watts was the minimum power level required to keep a King Hardside waterbed warmed to skin temperature in a 70°F ambient temperature room. And as the National Weather Service defines water as cold if it’s 70°F or lower, or as anyone jumping into a 70°F or pool can tell you, because the human body loses heat about 25 times faster in water than in air, waterbed heaters are designed to maintain a comfortable water temperature compatible with human skin temperature at 85°F.

She is the daughter of one of Houston, Texas’ premier waterbed chains. Superior Waterbeds was the marketplace leader for many decades and her dad Barry Ross one of the most iconic individuals of the industry at the time.

Destiny found her way via a close friend to Innomax with all the curiosity of today’s consumer interested in water. Her young son Ross, never having been exposed to waterbeds but having grown up knowing and hearing about grandfather Barry, was curious as to what all the fuss was about and what it would be like to sleep on a waterbed.

Destiny decided to fill in the blanks and in doing so bringing up so many fond memories of her youth being surrounded by waterbeds being installed, drained and/or demonstrated.

In fact one of Destiny’s best remembered experiences with her proud father was when she was the actual star in the commercials Barry made with a by-line that became a house hold phrase in the Texas marketplace. Shop and visit Superior Waterbeds where you’ll “Sleep Like a Baby”! Destiny was that baby and proudly still is!

As is quite common these days with the absence of specialized Waterbed sellers we sold and delivered Destiny’s new waveless soft sided bed across country and had it installed, set-up, filled and made ready for a great night’s sleep. So as one might imagine could happen, now that her son Ross gets to “sleep like a baby”, Destiny’s daughter Barri says she would like to have a waterbed as well.

Destiny stated, “No matter how old I am I will always get to be ‘the baby’. You guys made a dream come true! Honestly, just listening to the water go into the bed was a sound from my childhood that can’t be replicated.” She continued, “Honestly it took me back – the whole experience. We love the bed and we are sleeping like a baby”.

Thank you Destiny and thanks to your Dad for his dedication and promotion of waterbeds in the Gulf Coast markets and nationwide.

In an age where parents are more aware than ever of the connection between quality sleep and childhood development, an unexpected contender is making a comeback in bedrooms across America: the waterbed.

Once a symbol of 1970s counterculture cool and 1980s suburban chic, the modern waterbed is enjoying a quiet resurgence — and for good reason. With today’s advances in temperature control and structural design, youth waterbeds are proving to be more than just a nostalgic novelty. Many parents are discovering that these flotation mattresses offer unique therapeutic benefits for young, growing minds and bodies.

A Natural Sleep Environment

Flotation allows rest in a neutral position.

Sleep specialists agree that the quality of a child’s rest can have a profound impact on their physical growth, mental health, and cognitive development. The design of a waterbed mimics the gentle, even support that cradles a baby in a warm, weightless environment free of uncomfortable pressure points.

Unlike traditional mattresses that can create uneven pressure on the body, a temperature-controlled waterbed evenly distributes weight. This flotation effect allows the spine to rest in a neutral position, reducing strain on muscles and joints. For kids experiencing growth spurts — often accompanied by sore limbs and restless nights — the benefit of minimal pressure points can be significant.

When children are supported without concentrated pressure areas, their circulation improves, and their bodies can enter deeper
stages of restorative sleep. It’s like being gently rocked to sleep by water — and that sense of security can help calm active minds.

The Role of Temperature Control

Modern waterbeds feature advanced temperature regulation systems that keep the sleep surface comfortably warm or cool, depending on individual needs. For kids, this warmth can be especially soothing.

A comfortably warm sleep environment helps relax tight muscles, encouraging the body to slip into deep sleep more easily. Deeper sleep means the body can focus on the critical work of muscle repair and cell regeneration. Research has shown that consistent, high-quality sleep can also help regulate blood pressure and reduce the risk of developing hypertension later in life.

It’s amazing how the simple factor of temperature control can improve sleep quality. When children aren’t waking up because they’re too cold or overheated, they cycle through all the vital stages of sleep that their bodies and brains need.

Cleaner and Healthier Sleep Spaces

A waterbed’s vinyl surface is easy to clean.

Another selling point for parents is the hygiene factor. Traditional mattresses can harbor dust mites, allergens, and bacteria deep within the fabric and foam. In contrast, a waterbed’s vinyl surface is easy to clean — a quick wipe-down with a mild solution keeps it fresh and allergen-free.

In a world where indoor air quality is a growing concern for families, the waterbed’s easy-to-maintain surface can make a big difference for children with asthma or allergies. Anything that reduces allergens in a child’s sleep environment can directly impact how well they breathe and how deeply they sleep.

Fostering Dreams and Creativity

While the physical health benefits of better sleep are well documented, the mental benefits are just as compelling — especially for kids. Deep sleep plays a vital role in memory consolidation, emotional regulation, and creativity. In REM sleep, when vivid dreaming occurs, the brain processes information and builds new connections that are essential for learning.

Studies suggest that children who get adequate, high-quality sleep perform better in school, have better attention spans, and are more capable of creative problem-solving. When kids are well rested, they’re better prepared to face the challenges of the day, both physically and intellectually.

Fueling Physical Performance

The benefits of better sleep extend beyond the classroom. For young athletes, high-quality sleep can be the difference between peak performance and burnout. Deeper sleep promotes muscle recovery, supports healthy hormone production, and helps reduce inflammation.

Children’s bodies are working overtime to grow, especially if they’re active in sports or outdoor play. The flotation support of a waterbed helps reduce muscle soreness and speeds recovery.

The Generational Echo

The modern-day waterbed was patented in 1971 by Charles Hall, who envisioned a new way to sleep that eliminated uncomfortable pressure points and provided weightless comfort. The concept caught fire with Baby Boomers, and by the early 1980s, nearly one in every five mattresses sold in the U.S. was a waterbed.

That means a significant number of Gen X and Millennial kids grew up sleeping on water — and many carry fond memories of the gentle rocking motion that lulled them to sleep. Now, as these generations have children of their own, they’re seeking ways to give their kids the same comfort — with the benefit of improved technology and modern design.

An Investment in Better Rest

Experts recommend researching reputable brands.

Of course, investing in a youth waterbed isn’t the cheapest option compared to basic bed in a box mattresses. But many parents see it as an investment in their child’s health and wellbeing. The long-term payoff — better sleep, improved focus, fewer aches and pains — is hard to put a price on.

For families considering a switch, experts recommend researching reputable brands that specialize in youth waterbeds like InnoMax Corporation headquartered in Denver. Proper installation and maintenance — like using a quality liner and conditioning the water — will ensure the bed remains a safe and supportive sleep environment.

Riding the Wave Forward

As sleep continues to gain recognition as one of the pillars of good health for kids and adults alike, it’s no surprise that waterbeds are making waves once more. For the Gen Xers and Millennials who once drifted off on a gentle ocean of water, it feels like a return to a comforting legacy — one they’re now passing down to the next generation.

In a world that grows noisier and busier every day, the simple embrace of a waterbed offers something timeless: a place where kids can sleep deeply, dream freely, and wake up ready to take on whatever adventures the world has in store.

A Waterbedtime Story sponsored by InnoMax Corp.

The Sleep Revolution in the Middle: The Story of Mid Fill Softside Waterbeds

Once upon a time in the town of Denver, Colorado, nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains, a revolution in sleep comfort was quietly unfolding—not with bells or whistles, but with water and a dream. In this town stands the headquarters of InnoMax Corporation, a company with a long legacy of pioneering comfort. Their latest innovation? The new age Mid Fill Softside Waterbed featuring innovative Sling Rail construction—a perfect union of tradition and technology with therapeutic support and temperature control.

For years, sleep enthusiasts had wrestled with a classic dilemma: choosing between the lightweight ease of unheated shallow fill softside waterbeds and the immersive support of heated deep fill softside or traditional hardside waterbeds. The former was quick to set up and move, ideal for modern living. The latter offered unparalleled pressure relief and full-body flotation, but often at the cost of mobility and setup simplicity.

Enter the new age Mid Fill Softside Waterbed

InnoMax’s Revolutionary Sling Rail design eliminated the nuts & bolts nuisance of earlier Softside designs.

Enter the Mid Fill Softside Waterbed with a revolutionary user friendly Sling Rail design which eliminated the nuts & bolts nuisance of earlier Softside designs—an elegant solution that offered sleepers the best of all worlds.

The design was born out of careful listening. InnoMax, known for its attention to customer feedback and ergonomic innovation, noticed a recurring trend. Customers loved the idea of waterbed comfort but wanted something more balanced—something with structure, portability, and modularity, without sacrificing the dreamy support waterbeds were famous for. InnoMax’s Mid Fill Softside Waterbed with its innovative Sling Rail design answered the call.

Unlike shallow fill models that prioritized ease but sometimes lacked in therapeutic warmth, or deep fill systems that could be bulky and overwhelming to new users, InnoMax Mid Fill models struck a golden mean. With water levels calibrated between 5 and 7 inches—and InnoMax Thermal Guardian heaters certified to UL Standard 1445 for use in 3 to 7 inch depth waterbeds—the InnoMax Mid Fill Softside offers ample flotation support with a soothing cradling effect that relieves pressure points, aligned spines, and relaxes muscles.

InnoMax offers a variety of Mid-Fill Softside options from lower profile 8” models reminiscent of original waterbeds allowing one to sleep within conforming fluid suspension support to higher profile Convert-A-Bed models up to 14” high featuring more conventional mattress styling with a variety of gel, latex, visco & other optional adjustable comfort layers over a contouring 6 inch fluid support core.

InnoMax Pioneers Technological Evolution in Wave Suppression

Luxury Support® #1000 Dual Series Super Waveless Design reduces pressure points and improves circulation.

But it wasn’t just the depth that made the difference. The story of the Mid Fill Softside Waterbed is also a story of technological evolution—especially in wave suppression. Fifty years ago, when InnoMax was founded, waterbeds were the rebellious child of the mattress world—cool, different, and a little wild. But early adopters quickly realized that sleeping on a mattress with free-flowing water often meant long wave cycles, motion transfer, and a bit too much movement for many customers.

Over the decades, InnoMax refined the technology. Layered fiber inserts were introduced and lumbar support zones were added. By the time InnoMax turned its attention to the Mid Fill category, wave suppression had evolved into an art form. Their premium fluid suspension chambers featured multi-layered fiber systems—specially engineered to eliminate wave motion within seconds—while preserving the gentle responsiveness that made waterbeds so uniquely comfortable.

Incorporating modular comfort with benefits like dual temperature controlled fluid support cores in addition to enhancing traditional waterbed characteristics with advanced wave suppression technology carried on established fluid suspension support benefits like lower heart rates, reduced pressure point activity and improved circulation during sleep. By doing so InnoMax Convert-A-Bed Mid-Fills Softsides have brought this legacy technology into the modern wellness era.

InnoMax also offers an array of Mid-Fill Fluid Suspension support modules that vary from their Full Motion Model 100 to the Super Waveless 1000 design which is also available with Dual Adjustable Support.

But InnoMax didn’t stop there. They knew that the future of sleep required not just comfort but adaptability. That’s where their groundbreaking Convert-A-Bed smart top came in.

The Convert-A-Bed Mid-Fill System Allows Users to Customize Their Sleep Experience

InnoMax’s 14″ Mil-Fill Convert-A-Bed features a reversible comfort layer with both Natural Latex & Memory-Cell® over all 6” Mid-Fill Support Core for maximum adjustability.

Think of the Convert-A-Bed as a modular system for personalized sleep built into every Convert-A-Bed Mid Fill Softside Waterbed by InnoMax. Yet another modular component, Convert-A-Bed top panels are removable, refreshable, and changeable top thus allowing users to customize their sleep experience like never before. Want a bit more resilience? Add a layer of natural latex. Prefer the slow-molding embrace of viscoelastic memory foam? Just zip it in. Craving coolness on summer nights? A gel-infused layer may optionally zipped into place with ease.

This level of customization means that the Mid Fill Waterbed isn’t just a mattress—it is a sleep system. One that can evolve with the sleeper’s needs, health conditions, or even the seasons.

As the water chamber provides unparalleled pressure distribution, with the Convert-A-Bed system, one can fine-tune comfort layers to match each person’s personal recovery phase so it’s like prescription sleep.

Even aesthetically, the Mid Fill Softside Waterbed has evolved. Gone are the faux-leather sides and accents of vintage models and in their place are finely tailored, furniture-style designs that blend seamlessly into any bedroom décor. Modern and understated, these beds look as good as they feel.

Their story has echoed across the country, as more people rediscover what a well-designed waterbed can offer. With portability and lighter weight akin to shallow fill designs, and the body-conforming, therapeutic benefits of deep fill systems, the Mid Fill Softside Waterbed is more than a middle ground—it is the new standard.

And behind it all, InnoMax’s quiet commitment to innovation and customer-centric design has turned a once-novelty item into a pillar of modern sleep wellness.

Conclusion

In the words of InnoMax President Mark Miller; “Sometimes less is more; as less weight, less mass and a less complicated design adds up to more peace of mind.” So as the sun sets over the Rockies, and another day fades into quiet slumber, the soft ripple of comfort inside thousands of Mid Fill Softside Waterbeds reminds their owners of something simple but powerful: the best sleep comes from finding the happy medium.

The Evolution of Shallow Fill Softside Waterbeds: From Classic Designs to Modern Waveless Technology

Waterbeds, once the height of luxury in bedroom furniture, have evolved dramatically since their inception. The allure of flotation sleep where one sleeps in their mattress rather than on top if it has garnered a devoted following ever since the modern day waterbed was introduced in the early 1970s. One of the most significant advancements in the history of waterbeds is the shift from traditional high-fill models to the lightweight, portable designs we see today. As technology and consumer demands have shifted, the waterbed industry has continuously refined their products. The introduction of shallow fill softside waterbed models (66% lighter), transition into portable tube water chamber designs (40 lbs each), and the development of the innovative Temperature Control Waveless Cylinder Design by InnoMax Corporation have all played key roles in transforming the waterbed industry.

The Emergence of Shallow Fill Waterbeds

In the early 1980s, waterbed manufacturers began exploring ways to make waterbeds lighter and easier to handle. The result was the shallow fill softside waterbed, which offered all the benefits of a traditional waterbed but with a much lighter and more portable design.

Shallow fill waterbeds feature bladders that are only 3 to 4 inches deep, significantly reducing the weight compared to the high-fill versions. This shallow fill design maintains the core concept of the waterbed—the ability to contour to the body and provide buoyant support—while addressing some of the logistical challenges associated with traditional models. The lighter design made these waterbeds easier to move, install, and maintain, which appealed to a broader range of consumers.

The benefits of shallow fill waterbeds were clear as they were convenient and easier to transport. These beds also became more adaptable to different living spaces, such as apartments or smaller homes. Additionally, the thinner water bladders still provided the signature comfort that waterbeds were known for, with similar floating and weightless sensations.

Shallow fill waterbeds still had a challenge to address however: the inherent waves that came with the movement of water. While some users loved the motion, others found it disruptive, particularly for couples or light sleepers. To overcome this issue, manufacturers began developing new ways to reduce or eliminate the waves and movement that were characteristic of traditional waterbed designs.

The Rise of Waveless Technology

The demand for a more stable waterbed led to the development of waveless technology. Waveless waterbeds used internal baffles or chambers within the water bladder to reduce the movement of water, creating a more stable sleeping surface. InnoMax Corporation, a leading innovator in the waterbed industry, took these concerns to heart and began developing what would become one of the industry standard: the Waveless Cylinder Design.

InnoMax’s Waveless Cylinder Design

InnoMax’s Waveless Cylinder Design was a game-changer in the world of waterbeds. The tubes were designed to minimize the wave effect, offering a more stable sleeping surface with minimal motion transfer. Additionally, the cylindrical tubes were placed inside a softside frame, which contributed to a sleeker, more modern Softside look while maintaining the waterbed’s signature comfort.

One of the key benefits of the Waveless Cylinder Design was its portability. Compared to traditional high-fill waterbeds, the cylinder tubes were much lighter and easier to manage. Each tube could be individually filled with water, with some models including mid-body support, allowing for greater customization in terms of firmness and comfort. This modular approach also made the bed more adaptable to different preferences. Some individuals preferred a softer sleep surface, while others preferred a firmer one, and the tube design allowed for these adjustments without compromising on the waterbed’s essential characteristics.

The Softside frame surrounding the tubes added another layer of convenience. Unlike traditional Hardside wooden frames which were heavy and difficult to move, the softside frame was flexible, lightweight, and easy to assemble. This allowed users to move or relocate their waterbeds with ease, making them ideal for renters or people who frequently moved.

InnoMax’s innovation also extended to the materials used in the construction of the Waveless Cylinder Tube. The company used high-quality, durable materials that were resistant to punctures and wear, ensuring that the waterbed would last longer and require less maintenance. These innovations combined to create a waterbed that offered superior comfort, portability, and durability.

Modern Advancements and Continued Innovation

Since the release of the Waveless Cylinder Design, InnoMax has continued to refine and improve their waterbed products. Today’s softside waterbeds, including those with Waveless Cylinder Design technology, come with features such as heated options, hypoallergenic materials, and advanced support systems that cater to a wide range of sleep preferences. The beds are now lighter than ever, making them even more portable and easier to manage.

Shallow fill softside waterbeds are now available in a variety of sizes and configurations, from single and dual-chamber to multi-tube designs. These innovations have ensured that the waterbed remains relevant in an industry currently dominated by memory foam and innerspring mattresses.

Waterbeds, once a luxury item associated with the 1970s and 1980s, have made a resurgence in the modern era, thanks to innovations like the InnoMax Waveless Cylinder Design. These beds now offer a unique combination of comfort, portability, and practicality that appeals to a new generation of sleepers. As technology continues to advance, it’s likely that we will see even more improvements in waterbed design, further enhancing the experience of sleeping on water while addressing the challenges of weight, portability, and durability.

Conclusion

The evolution of shallow fill softside waterbeds, particularly the development of the Waveless Cylinder Design by InnoMax, has transformed the waterbed from a heavy, high-maintenance luxury item into a practical, lightweight, and customizable sleep solution. These advancements have not only made waterbeds more portable and easier to maintain but have also improved their comfort and durability. As the waterbed industry continues to evolve, it remains a testament to innovation, comfort, and the enduring appeal of a truly unique sleep experience.

The Evolution of Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds: From the 1970s to the 2025 Perfection

In the 1970s, the world of sleep was revolutionized by the introduction of waterbeds. These innovative sleep surfaces, filled with water, promised unparalleled comfort and a unique sleeping experience. Among the early innovations were Softside models designed to look like traditional mattresses. And while later designs varied into Shallow and Mid-Fill models which we’ll be addressing in Parts 3 & 4, early Softsides were designed to 9” Deep Fill specifications established for the original Hardside Wood Frame Waterbeds being produced at the time.

The Deep Fill Softside Waterbed Era: 1970

What looks good on paper is sometimes impractical in real life

The 1970s were marked by a spirit of experimentation and a desire to break free from traditional norms. Waterbeds, with their fluid support and promise of a weightless sleep, fit perfectly into this zeitgeist. As the assembly processes of the first Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds were often fairly intricate, early designers often focused on simplifying product set up. Relative to this challenge I rendered the adjacent pencil illustration nearly 50 years ago promoting one solution. Albeit the concept looked good on paper, as King size models weighed up to 200 pounds and boxes were large and unwieldy (much like a refrigerator), in reality shipping and delivery required a sizable vehicle to transport a couple of stout delivery people to install. As complexities were continually resolved, Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds ultimately became a symbol of luxury and modernity. Often associated with the counterculture movement and appealing to those who sought an alternative lifestyle. The sensation of floating on water, combined with the bed’s ability to conform to the body’s contours captured the imagination of a generation seeking new ways to relax and rejuvenate making Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds a highly sought-after item in the 1970s.

The Evolution of Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds: 1980s-1990s

As the 1980s rolled in, the waterbed industry continued to innovate. The evolution of Deep Fill Softside waterbeds marked a significant shift. Unlike their Hardside counterparts which often included bruise inducing Wood Frames, Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds featured a water-filled mattress encased in a foam perimeter, which was then covered with a fabric casing. This design made the beds look more like traditional mattresses which facilitated the use of conventional size sheets and bedding, making them more appealing to a broader audience. Additionally Deep Fill Softside waterbeds were becoming easier to assemble and maintain as the assembly process was simplified.

Fast forward to the present day, and the waterbed industry has continued to evolve. One of the standout designs in the modern era is the InnoMax Perfection Deep Fill Softside Waterbed. This design represents the culmination of decades of innovation, combining the best features of traditional waterbeds with modern technology and materials. The InnoMax Perfection is designed with user-friendliness in mind. The assembly process is straightforward, with clear instructions and fewer components. The bed features a deep fill water chamber, providing ergonomically designed internal support complemented by stretch top vinyl with fluid support like earlier models but with enhanced comfort and stability. The water chamber available with a variety of wave reduction options, is encased in an exclusive Memory Weave Interlocking M-Rail Power Edge that provides a smooth transition from foam perimeter to fluid support which is then covered with a Luxurious and Fashionable enclosure. One of the many key innovations in the InnoMax Perfection design is the use of advanced materials. The exclusive Memory Weave Interlocking M-Rail Power Edge is made from high-density foam and durable fabric providing contouring support from head to foot and side to side. The M-Rail design is also unique in that it does not require hardware, extraneous frame work or recessed foundation cavity, all of which amount to a simplified no-tools required set up installation. The Fashionable enclosure is made with a Luxurious Low Tension Stretch Knit Cover Panel, offering a soft, breathable surface that enhances comfort. And versus over-stuffed pillow tops, the Stretch top provides the original form fitting flotation benefits of pressure point reduction and temperature control thereby optimizing blood circulation for a deeper more rejuvenating sleep. Depending on support package the InnoMax Perfection waterbed may optionally come with dual heaters and digital or analog thermostat controls, allowing users to adjust their sleep environment to their personal preference for year-round comfort whatever the weather.

The Future of Waterbeds

As the human body primarily consists of water, Fluid Suspension Sleep contours naturally.

The evolution of waterbeds from the complex designs of the 1970s to the user-friendly Perfection of today reflects the InnoMax’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. Modern waterbeds offer the same unique sleeping experience as their predecessors but with enhanced comfort, support, and ease of use. Looking ahead, the future of waterbeds appears promising as advances in materials science and technology continue to lead even more improvements in design and functionality.

In conclusion, the journey of Deep Fill Softside Waterbeds is a testament to the power of innovation. These beds have evolved to meet the changing needs and preferences of consumers, providing a unique and comfortable sleep experience that continues to captivate and inspire.

on Waterbeds.

The Early Days of Waterbeds

Mark says: The waterbed certainly came out of the heyday of new age movements in the 1960’s and 1970’s into the bedding marketplace for pained sleepers with an insatiable search for promised relief and nighttime comfort. The sheer thought of sleeping on a waterbed conjures up thoughts of seasickness, marshmallow softness and geysers for leaks. The early purchasers of waterbeds had only the mere trappings of the sophistication and credibility of the most popular beds. The earliest benefactors of the early waterbeds and their improved circulation and relieved back aches and the joy of semi-weightless support began to put the waterbed into the mainstream. Less sleeping time and flat out being so comfortable you didn’t want to get up.

Challenges with Early Waterbeds

The least of the waterbeds problems were comfort but the four boards and 2x wood frame construction left much to be desired. Consumers became displeased with this bulky and cumbersome containment for the water mattress, although the ornate and flashy headboards were considered a good furniture investment. Bruised thighs, shins, ankles elbows and bumped heads only added and fueled the wood frame’s waterbed decline. A breakthrough was needed to take the waterbed enthusiasts to the next level.

Compared to conventional mattress factories, early on Softside Waterbed manufacturing facilities focused on developing Solid State foundations & Power Edge mattress designs to replace spring components and enhance the Fluid Suspension Sleep experience.

The Rise of Softside Waterbeds

Enter the soft side waterbed with the look and convenience of a conventional mattress combined with the principles of floatation. A true flotation bed that looked like a conventional bed featuring traditional water bed depth of 8.5 to 9.5 inches and a controlled heating system plus choices in wave less ,mattress designs.
High density foam bolsters, fitted quilted covers, upholstered box foundations & fitted liners replaced the plywood decks & tack-in liners of the past and incorporated the beneficial aspects of waterbed flotation sleep in a conventional style mattress. This particular design is enjoying a renaissance currently for those folks who have bought in and tried every miracle mattress on the market today and find themselves wanting to return to the lost benefits of sleeping and loving their waterbed.

Foreword: I am very happy to reintroduce Mark Miller, President of InnoMax Corporation, as the contributing author of another edition of ‘A Waterbedtime Story’ called ‘Waterbeds for the Ages’. As I never cease to be amazed with the significant volume of waterbeds continually being sold, I am glad Mark is sharing his perspective on what has driven this market demand over the ages.

Mark says: Going back to the very beginning a bed has been a prized possession for sleepers of all social statuses. Today when you say waterbed the most common response is, “Oh do they still make them” and the answer is yes they do and you would be surprised at how many we sell and who is buying and sleeping on them. In looking at the number of replacement water mattresses being sold its amazing even to us how many millions of wood framed waterbeds remain in the market today.

Mark is pictured here with yet another truckload of waterbeds heading for market.

You don’t often hear the term Hippie being used any more but bring up waterbeds and its one of the first things to pop out of someone’s mouth. Yes, they were a part of the “Hippie Lifestyle” and originally available in such questionable outlets as “head shops”. To this day waterbeds are often misconstrued as a novelty rather than the comfortable, orthopedic, and therapeutic sleep system they in fact were and have become today. In the late 70’s the industry reached one-billion dollars. In the mid 80’s sales topped the three-billion mark.

The waterbed concept is not a new idea, people have been sleeping on water as long as 3600 years ago.

Legend has it that Persian caravan masters used sewn together goat skins filled with water to enjoy the “cloud like ‘comfort of flotation sleep. Cleopatra was known to have enjoyed lounging on a goat-skinned bag filled with water. Leonardo Da Vinci praised the merits of the “floating bed” in his writings. As early as 1873 London medical journal reported a patient could lie on a water-filled mattress for an extended period “and never have a bed sore”. The idea again revived in Queen Victoria’s time and was later put to use in the Civil War as a treatment for burn victims.

Doctors and hospitals have increased usage of waterbeds for the treatment and comfort of many types of physical ailments. Visit your local gym and you just might find yourself on a bed of water pulsating with invigorating and relaxing massage. The human body is primarily made up of water so its density is very nearly the same as water. On a waterbed, the body rests in a semi-weightless state, similar to the manner in which we slept before birth and we all know or should it’s never good to argue with Mother Nature. The waterbed mattress will conform to every part of your body. No matter what position you assume or how much you move around, you will always enjoy total support and comfort.

Foreword: I am very happy to introduce Mark Miller as the contributing author for this edition of ‘A Waterbedtime Story’. I have known Mark for decades as an award winning marketer and, though my junior by many years, I refer to him as Dad because he has continued to enthusiastically mentor legions of people on the benefits of floatation sleep over the years. Furthermore, as implied by the name of his company InnoMax, Mark is an innovative designer driven to maximize product form and function as evidenced by the following ‘A New Chapter in Waterbeds’.

Simplify and prosper so the old saying goes…

Innomax has just redefined how easy investing and getting a wood frame waterbed can be. In the old days you might be facing a semi-trailer rolling into your neighborhood and you helping the driver to unload your traditional wood framed waterbed. Welcome Hardwood Classics! Innomax puts a new spin on what’s in the box and how it gets delivered to you. Just like all of your favorite resources for on-line ordering you can receive your wood frame waterbed to your front door easily with cost effective nationwide ground carriers like UPS and FedEx.

There are not a lot of waterbed manufacturers out there, and few have ventured into refining this very misunderstood and mysterious product category. This sought after home for true depth floatation and ‘Waterbedders’ wanting to relive comfort from a seemingly by-gone era is brought to new life with the functional bookcases, lightened and very contemporary finishes of this newly collated collection of Harwood waterbed essentials.
If you remember the sometimes difficult entrance and exit from a traditional hard side waterbed set up you’ll understand that while we were at the new design process we raised the height of our bedframes to better accommodate the ease of exit and entry. This combined with a fiber rich water mattress make getting in and out a snap versus the getting stuck days of old.

We wouldn’t be putting so much design time and effort unless the market of floatation aficionados hadn’t been clamoring for something new and different for the buyer searching for waterbed originals. Add one of our many mattress bundles featuring a new world of choices to our pre-packaged kits and away you go.
